Don’t miss the Incredible Sacsayhuaman Fortress, When in Cuzco, Peru.

Hello bloggers today I going to write about the incredible fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Cuzco,Peru in South America. Know more by reading our blog and GOOGLE BLOG.

Sacsayhuaman offers an incredible view of Cusco, and the surrounding mountains, the archaeological complex itself has very surprising places, some of them with history and meaning of Cuzco, like the temple of moon, etc.

Sacsayhuaman is only 10 minutes from the Plaza de Armas de Cuzco by car or 30 minutes walking until there. It was used as a fortress to defend Cusco, when the old Spanish arrived in 16 century. The Spanish attack was repulsed during the Inca rebellion of Vilcabamba in Cuzco, the place served as an Inca fortress.

The origin of its Quechua name in Spanish means satisfied hawk, because from that point the capital of the Inca Empire (Cuzco) could be observed. The Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman serves as the stage for the staging of the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) that takes place during the winter solstice, every June 24, also is the birthday of Cuzco city. No doubt is an attraction that cannot be missed when visiting the city of Cuzco, Peru.

When the Spanish attack was repulsed during the Inca rebellion in Vilcabamba in Cuzco, the place served as an Inca fortress.
The architecture in Sacsayhuaman has sacred buildings such as residential buildings, towers, shrines, warehouses, roads and aqueducts. That is why the form and harmony of the landscape are similar to other sacred Inca sites like MachuPicchu.

The main wall of Sacsayhuaman is built in zigzag with giant stones of up to 5 meters in height between 95 and 120 tons of weight and according to the Peruvian chronicler, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Sacsayhuaman was the greatest architectonic work that the Incas built during the its apogee.
